Welcome to the September E-news. We're happy to send this email your way because you've indicated in recent months that you'd like to get regular updates from us via email about what's happening at HVCC. Over the summer, those "regular updates" haven't been as regular as we'd like, so our apologies if you haven't heard from us in awhile. But our communications team is "back in session" and we're eager to provide you with monthly E-news information. Check out this mid-September E-newsletter for info about what's coming up and opportunities to get involved. And look for the next issue of HVCC E-news in early October for more exciting updates!

Upcoming Series – ‘til Death

Marriage is tough! Everyone who has ever been married understands this. It’s really amazing how much you can love and hate someone at the same time.

But God’s goal for marriage still stands. He wants people to enjoy an ever-deepening love relationship between husband and wife. How do you make this happen?

We’re not experts on marriage, but God is. Marriage was His idea in the first place. In this series, we will attempt to discover some of God’s ideas on how to move a marriage forward from any spot. Maybe you are near divorce, maybe things are going fairly well or maybe things are going great. No matter where you are at, this series will give you some practical ideas on how to take it up a notch.

For additional reading and research, we recommend the following resources:

Richland Center Grand Opening

The Grand Opening for Hidden Valley–Richland Center will be Sunday, Oct. 7, at their new meeting place at 182 North Central Street. This will be our first major effort to invite everyone in the Richland Center area who needs a church home to check out Hidden Valley.

Hidden Valley–Richland Center is our first video venue. Brian’s message is delivered on a large screen via DVD, but in every other respect it’s “live church”! Since last spring, the group there has been building a worship team, ministry leadership, and services for children, and our new site director, Jamie Johnson, now provides overall on-site leadership.

Pray that our direct mail campaign, our new location, and the upcoming “`Til Death” series provide the touch that many people need to meet Jesus in Richland Center.

Help Spruce up HVCC for Big Sunday!

Ever heard the phrase “many hands makes light work”? Here’s your chance to take part in experiencing that truth!

“Big Sunday” scheduled for Sunday, September 30th is just a couple of weeks away. This is our fall outreach effort to invite anyone and everyone who wants to check out Hidden Valley Community Church to come visit! So we want to make sure the entire space is in tip-top shape.

If you have an hour or two to spare, and a heart to serve, join us to help make the building sparkle from top to bottom.

You can sign up on the sheet outside Janet Clark’s office door. Or call Janet Clark at 930-4822 to sign up for the task of your choice. Come anytime it’s convenient for you the week of September 24th, day or evening. Sign up early and you’ll even have the chance to pick the job you’d most like to have! There’s plenty to do. We’d LOVE to have your help.

Prayer and Fasting Event

In connection with Big Sunday, we invite all Hidden Valley members and regular attenders to join in a day of fasting and prayer. All of our efforts to communicate God’s love depend on Him, and on Thursday, September 27, whether we are at home or at work, we can fast, and in our spare moments we can pray for God’s blessing on our community and on our Big Sunday events. On that evening we will break our fast with a delicious meal at the church, and we will spend time praying together.

Fasting can be done in several ways. You can drink only water that day, supplement with fruit and vegetable juices, or fast from a specific thing if you cannot go without food for medical reasons. However you decide to fast, remember to pray throughout the day for those who are far from God.

If you are able to join in the fast, please contact Cherie Rudesill at cherwi@mhtc.net or indicate your interest with a brief note on your welcome card this Sunday.

Last time, people helped by picking up litter on the lawn, cleaning windows, re-doing bulletin board decorations, cleaning the nursery space. You name it.
Join us in making our wonderful space as welcoming as possible for our guests on Sunday September 30th.

Financial Peace University

Have you ever felt like you need a total money makeover? Beginning in October, Hidden Valley will offer a 13-week program called Financial Peace University that promises to empower and teach you to make the right decisions with money. The signup period ends Sept. 30.

In Financial Peace University, you will join a group that meets once a week. In the first hour you will view a video lesson by Dave Ramsey, author of the best-selling book The Total Money Makeover and host of a nationally syndicated radio show, “The Dave Ramsey Show.” In the second hour you will discuss the week’s topic and offer support and encouragement to each other as you pursue the goal of transforming your finances and your future.

Financial Peace University covers such challenges as Cash Flow Planning, Relating with Money, Dumping Debt, Understanding Investments, and Buyer Beware! For your convenience, Hidden Valley will offer the class at four different times/locations.

In February, six Hidden Valley families participated in FPU. Every one later reported a life change in the way they related to finances, their spouses, and ultimately to God.

There is a $100 per family fee to participate. How do you get started? Let us know you are interested in participating by writing “FPU” on your welcome card or by calling us at 930-4822. For more information about Financial Peace University, visit their website at www.daveramsey.com .

CSI Update

Our CSI (Christian Service Ignited) team reported a wonderful response to the recent school backpack drive. Because of your generosity, CSI filled 10 new backpacks with the supplies needed to start the school year and distributed them to children in our congregation who needed them. The team also sent three boxes of supplies to the Dodgeville schools to meet additional needs.

On August 11, CSI volunteers helped out at the Bike Rally at Harris Park. Donations went to support the Iowa County Humane Society. The CSI team plans a leaf-raking event this fall, and in November they will organize a Thanksgiving basket drive to deliver special meals to the elderly and shut-ins our our community. A gift-wrapping station at Wal-Mart is planned for December.

Want to be a part of reaching out to your community through acts of kindness? Write CSI on your welcome card this Sunday and we’ll get in touch with you!

No Awana at HVCC This Year

You may have children who enjoyed the Awana Children’s Education Program held at Hidden Valley Community Church this past school year. Unfortunately, our Awana ministry leaders, Steve and Melissa Misciagno, moved out of the area over the summer. At this point, we’ve not yet identified someone who will lead an Awana program. Therefore, we will not have an Awana program at Hidden Valley this year. If you are interested in finding another Awana kids program in the area, visit the Awana website at www.awana.org and click on the link called “Find Awana in your Area”.
